Objectification of women in popular music

So. Objectification. That’s when you treat someone as a thing instead of a person. In most cases in popular music, it’s females being objectified as just a body, preferably an attractive body, and it’s very pervasive. Sexual objectification is more prevalent than other typically oppressive images such as female subordination and male aggression, but they are all there in some form. With music as the second most utilised form of media in adolescents, how does it affect their perceptions of gender roles? The influence of music can have far reaching effects for those who hear it or view the videos. Adolescents are one of the largest music markets, viewing on average 10 hours a week, and also one of the most impressionable demographics as their sexual identities are still developing.
